Rider Toolkit

The apps, confirmed-open biker venues, legendary roads and official services worth having when you ride in the UK.

Last checked: 11 August 2026

Why this list is short: Most "UK biker cafe" lists on the internet still recommend places that have closed — the Ponderosa on the Horseshoe Pass shut for good in March 2025 after 42 years and is still listed everywhere. Every venue here was confirmed still trading from the operator's own site. If we cannot confirm it, it is not listed.

Legendary Roads

6

A537 — Cat and Fiddle

Buxton ↔ Macclesfield, Peak District

The UK's most famous set of bends. It is now covered by average-speed cameras, so take your pleasure from the line, not the speed.

A57 — Snake Pass

Sheffield ↔ Glossop, Peak District

The classic crossing of the Pennines. It closes often for landslips and winter weather, so check National Highways before you set off.

A4069 — Black Mountain Pass

Llangadog ↔ Brynamman, Galler

Wales's most photogenic open-moor pass. Sheep and crosswinds are a constant risk and the surface is slick when wet.

Evo Triangle

A5 / A543 / B4501, Kuzey Galler

A wide, flowing triangular route. Its popularity means regular police patrols.

Hardknott & Wrynose Pass

Cumbria, Göller Bölgesi

Gradients up to 33% and tight hairpins. Not for a novice rider, a heavily loaded bike or a busy day.

North Coast 500

İskoçya kuzey kıyısı, ~830 km

Scotland's northern loop, spread over several days. Plan passing places on single-track roads and the gaps between fuel stations in advance.

Mobile Apps

13

Apps riders actually use, from route planning to paying the ULEZ charge.

Official Services

7

MOT, tax, licence, ULEZ and helmet safety ratings — all official sources.

Training & Advanced Riding

4

Post-test programmes that sharpen your riding and often cut your insurance.

Gear & Insurance

6

Gear retailers and motorcycle-specialist insurance brokers.

Emergency & Breakdown

5

What you need after a crash or breakdown — install it before you need it.
